Donors, if it cost less than $0 to help local charities… would you take advantage?
How It Works
Taxpayers can donate to “Qualifying Charitable Organizations”, up to $2,111, and get dollar-for-dollar tax credits… so it’s a $0 net cost to the donor! (click here for tax credit details). Essentially, you’re redirecting some of your tax payments from the government to a charity.
CFA is passionate about inspiring folks to designate their tax credits, so we reward you with an Amazon gift card equal to 10% of your donation.
Example: You designate a $1,000 tax credit. Your AZ State taxes are reduced by $1,000, remit $1,000 payment to the charity, and receive a $100 Amazon gift card… so you’re $100 ahead and made a big difference in the community! It’s a fantastic deal, so folks are getting on board every day!
The Donation Process Is Simple:
Step #1: Decide how much you will donate.
For tax year 2024, married couples filing jointly can claim a maximum credit of $2,111, and other taxpayers up to $1,057. However, your donation shouldn’t exceed the year’s tax liability found on line 48 of Arizona Form 140… email us if you’re not sure, we have a former CPA on staff who can answer questions.
Step #2: Make your donation.
There are two easy ways to donate…
✔ Click the “Donate Online” button (select amount)
✔ Email or mail in our Donations Form
Step #3: Claim your credit.
When we email you the tax credit receipt and link to gift card equal to 10% of your donation… we’ll also attach the tax form & instructions.
FAQ
-
You will receive a tax credit receipt listing the Qualifying Charitable Organization (QCO) and the unique code assigned to them. The State has a list of Qualifying Charities at https://azdor.gov/tax-credits/credits-contributions-qcos-and-qfcos
Your donation is reported on tax returns of both you and the charity, matched up by the AZ Dept of Revenue... so the checks & balances are very tight.
-
No, CFA is not paid by the charities, and there's no financial incentive for us to direct your donations to a particular charity.
-
The state of Arizona has a rigorous set of criteria for charities to become "Qualifying". If you're interested in how that process works, visit the state's site at https://azdor.gov/tax-credits/certification-qcos-and-qfcos

Charity Fundraising of Arizona interviews the charities to find those with the most need and, in our opinion, have the most inspiring mission. Your donation receipt will show the charity that received your donation.
-
Yes! You don’t have to live in the state of Arizona to participate. As long as you have an Arizona state tax liability, you can still receive a dollar for-dollar tax credit against that tax liability when you donate.
-
You may donate any time of the year.
Unlike other tax credit programs, you have until April 15th to make your donation and still claim it for the previous tax year. For donations made between January 1st and April 15th, a donor has the option to claim the tax credit for the previous or current tax year. If claiming for the previous year, donations must be made on or before April 15th.
If you file an extension, your donation still needs to be postmarked or submitted online on or before midnight of April 15th.

Good question, and that happens sometimes. For example, a single tax filer has a $650 tax liability for the year, so that's the maximum allowed donation. But what if they donated $800 back in June because that’s how much they owed for the prior year, but then they ended up owing just $650? Okay, they’ve "over-donated” by $150 for the current year, but it’s not lost! They have the next 5 years to use that $150 overpayment… so they'll simply apply it to next year’s tax bill.
-
It doesn't matter whether you're getting a refund or owe more at year-end. Either way, your donation limit is the total tax liability for the year.
For example... your tax return on Form 140 shows on line #48 total tax liability of $1,200, total payments & credits of $1,500 on line #59, for a refund of $300. If your filing status is married jointly then your donation limit is $1,200. But if your filing status is single or head of household, your donation limit is $1,057 (because that's set by the State).
Sure it may be a bit confusing, but we encourage you to pass along questions to us or your tax professional :)

Yes, comprehensive donation receipts are emailed to all donors (or mailed, if you prefer). Along with the receipt, you'll receive a gift card equal to 10% of your donation and instructions for applying the credit to your tax forms. Of course, you're welcome to contact us anytime with questions :)

The information you need to claim your tax credit is located on your donation receipt provided by us. When filing, you can claim your credit for donations made to Qualifying Charitable Orgs by using Arizona Form 321, and donations to Qualifying Foster Care Charitable Orgs by using Arizona Form 352.
Don't worry, it won't be confusing... when we send your tax credit receipt, we'll explain in detail how to apply your donation to one or both of those forms, and gladly answer your questions :)
